As I've read to my 3 children and to my grand- daughter, it's clear to me that written words are mainly discussion outlines for the parents / reader of the story. I alternate pointing to words and pictures and fully agree that letter and word recognition are important stepping stones to reading, but the point I want to emphasise is that pictures can deliver, to a very young child, most of the punch in the reading experience.BRENDA RANSOM ROSSnoreply@blogger.com
